MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 3-1 to the 14th-ranked Florida Tech Panthers on Wednesday night at Rick Stottler Field in their Sunshine State Conference women's soccer opener.
After playing a scoreless first half, the Panthers (5-0-0, 1-0-0 SSC) scored first in the 54th minute when Mary Watson crossed the ball over from the right wing and Eva Banton slotted it past the Buccaneer defense from eight yards out.
The Bucs (1-1-1, 0-1-0 SSC) knotted the game on freshman winger Sarah Wignall's first career goal just two minutes later.
But Aubri Williamson connected with Kiera McCarthy for a pair of goals in the 63rd and 74th minute.
Karlyn Prisco had a single save to earn the win in goal for the Panthers. Paula Forero had six saves for the Bucs, as the Panthers out-shot Barry 19-4.
The Bucs host the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Buccaneer Field.
