MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 9-1 in five innings to the Embry-Riddle Eagles at Buccaneer Field on Friday night in the first meeting between the teams ever.
The Bucs (17-14) held the Eagles (28-9) to just five hits, but two of them were homers by pitcher Robi Zimmerman (6-3) which led to five runs.
Zimmerman hit a solo homer in the second inning to put the Eagles up 2-0 and had a grand slam in the third which made it 6-1.
Barry's Kristina Pazienza went 2-for-2 with a solo homer of her own in the second inning for the only Buccaneer run.
Zimmerman went the distance, allowing a run on four hits and a walk, while striking out four to earn the win. Geneva Santos allowed six runs (four earned) on two hits and two walks in 2.0 innings to take the loss.
The series concludes on Saturday at 1:00 pm with a doubleheader.
