Softball Rallies Past Knights

Duncan's two-run homer was the game-winner and the first of her career

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry softball team rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Lynn Knights 4-2 on Friday night in the opening game of their Sunshine State Conference series at Buccaneer Field.

The Knights (15-31-1, 6-15-1 SSC) scored a couple of unearned runs in the first and third innings. Hannah Tauscher scored both runs after advancing on errors.

The Bucs (23-17, 15-7 SSC) trimmed the lead to one in the fourth inning on Dee Espinosa's leadoff homer.

In the fifth, the Bucs staged a two-out rally. Kayla Ogle walked and stole second. Megan Copeland knotted the game with a bloop single over the head of shortstop Kaitlin Conrad. Lynsey Duncan followed with a home run to left center, the first of her career.

Anieliese Palmeiro (11-5) worked the complete game for the win. She gave up the two unearned runs on four hits and three walks and struck out six, including Sara Vazquez looking to end the game.

Francais Olexa (6-17) took the loss for the Knights. She held the Bucs to just four hits, though two of them left the yard, but walked six. All four runs were earned as she went the distance.

The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1:00 pm. The Bucs will honor the seven senior in a ceremony between the games.
