BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry baseball allowed a late lead slip away as it fell to Sunshine State Conference rival, Lynn, 3-1.
The two teams played tough defense, keeping the game scoreless till the top of the 6
th.
Lynn starter junior RHP Donovan Armas struck out nine to keep the Bucs at bay but the Bucs mustered eight hits from
Mike Diaz,
Alexander DeGoti,
Ryan Baldwin,
Jonathan Quintana,
Julian Abreu and
Khalil Denson.
Barry couldn't take advantage of its offensive output until scoring on a RBI single by
Khalil Denson that brought in Baldwin in the 6
th.
Bucs starter
Alex Lavandero struck out 12 batters in his first seven innings in a dominant display. But in the 8
th, the sophomore RHP gave up three runs off a homer by senior 1B Ryan Donovan.
The Bucs couldn't muster the tying runs in the 9
th and fell to their conference rivals.
Lavandero goes to 6-4 on the year in 7.2 innings pitched. Armas improves 5-2 with the complete game win.
Barry now stands at 22-22 on the season and 6-13 in SSC play. Lynn improves to 25-20 and 12-10 in the conference. The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
