WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers saw their five-game winning streak snapped with a 5-3 loss to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday night at Simpson Field on the Rinker Athletic Campus.
The Sailfish (32-15) scored twice in the first, two more in the second, on a homer by Victoria Gonzalez, and one in the fourth.
Barry (22-15) got on the board in the fifth on an RBI single by Lynsey Duncan to score Alayna Gallagher. Kayla Ogle, who went 3-for-3 to raise her average to .429, scored on an error.
Duncan delivered again for the Bucs in the second after Ogle had a one-out triple. Duncan tripled to right with two outs to drive in the run.
Anieliese Palmeiro (10-4) took the loss for the Bucs, snapping a personal five-game winning streak. The freshman allowed five runs on nine hits. She struck out two and did not walk a batter in five innings. Duncan cleaned up the last two innings by retiring six of the seven batters she faced. The only runner reached on an error.
Amber Johnson (14-1) earned the win, pitching five complete while only allowing one earned run. The senior also struck out a pair.
Nikki Brinegar picked up her first save for the 'Fish, as the southpaw tossed two innings of work, allowing one earned run and three hits, while striking out a batter.
Duncan also had three hits for the Bucs and dove in two.
The series conclude on Saturday at 1:00 pm with a doubleheader.
