MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball had a bittersweet return to Feinbloom Field on Friday night as it fell to Sunshine State Conference foe Nova Southeastern, 8-3.
The Buccaneers suffered the loss due to decisive NSU hitting with the Sharks homering twice in the 3
rd and once in the 5
th. NSU also scored on RBI in the 5
th and several defensive mishaps by the Bucs.
Barry attempted to get back in it in the 6
th when
Julian Abreu scored on an error after a
Khalil Denson RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
In the 7
th,
Alffredi Ramos hit a RBI single to left field that brought in
Ryan Baldwin and Abreu singled to right center to score
Jonathan Quintana.
These runs would be all the Bucs could muster as they fell in the first game of the series.
NSU starter Alex Mateo went to 5-3 on the season with the win off a 7.0 IP, three strikeout performance. Barry starter
Alex Lavandero went to 4-2 this year off the loss in a 6.0 IP, eight strikeout outing.
The Sharks improve 19-11 and 9-4 in the SSC, Barry goes to 18-13 and 2-5 in conference play.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.Â
