Baseball Falls To Nova

Bucs lose in conference game

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball had a bittersweet return to Feinbloom Field on Friday night as it fell to Sunshine State Conference foe Nova Southeastern, 8-3.

The Buccaneers suffered the loss due to decisive NSU hitting with the Sharks homering twice in the 3rd and once in the 5th. NSU also scored on RBI in the 5th and several defensive mishaps by the Bucs.

Barry attempted to get back in it in the 6th when Julian Abreu scored on an error after a Khalil Denson RBI sacrifice fly to center field.

In the 7th, Alffredi Ramos hit a RBI single to left field that brought in Ryan Baldwin and Abreu singled to right center to score Jonathan Quintana.

These runs would be all the Bucs could muster as they fell in the first game of the series.
NSU starter Alex Mateo went to 5-3 on the season with the win off a 7.0 IP, three strikeout performance. Barry starter Alex Lavandero went to 4-2 this year off the loss in a 6.0 IP, eight strikeout outing.

The Sharks improve 19-11 and 9-4 in the SSC, Barry goes to 18-13 and 2-5 in conference play.

The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
