Baseball Swept in DH By Flagler

The Bucs fall in the day's two games

ST. AUGUSTINE -- Barry baseball fell to Flagler College in Sunday's doubleheader, 7-2 and 3-2.

In the first game, the Buccaneers struck first with a first-inning Ramon Valdez RBI-double to left center that brought in Julian Abreu. The Saints scored two runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a RBI single to center field.

The Bucs answered back in the seventh when Alffredi Ramos hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Alexander DeGoti to tie the game. But Flagler scored five more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away.

Flagler starter Mike O'Reilly improved to 4-2 with a 12-strikeout, complete game effort. Bucs starter Luis Deville (4-1) went six innings, allowing four runs, two earned, five hits and a walk, and struck out two.

In the second game, Barry kept it close, making a comeback in the seventh after Flagler scored three runs in the first two innings. In the seventh, Valdez hit a two-run homer to right field to pull within a run. However, Barry wasn't able able to get the tying run, and fell in nine innings.

Flagler starting right-handed pitcher Dustin Dye moved to 3-3 on the year with a three-strikeout effort in 5 1/3 innings. Bucs starter Daniel Broeseker fell to 2-2 after a working 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Saints closer Kyle Schackne earned his second save of the season wiith a two-strikeout, 2 1/3 innings effort in which he allowed one hit and a walk.

Barry now stands at 16-11 on the year, while Flagler improves to 14-11. Up next for the Bucs is a trip to West Palm Beach to take on rival Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday.
