MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers walked off with a 10-9 win over the Chestnut Hill Griffins at Feinbloom Field on Wednesday night.
Jonathan Quintana bounced an RBI single over the third baseman's head to score Alexander DeGoti with the winning run.
It was the Bucs' first walk-off win of the season and the first since beating Tampa 5-4 on Mar. 7, 2015.
The Griffins (1-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second inning, scoring four in the first and one in the second.
But the Bucs (11-6) responded with eight unanswered runs. Alffredi Ramos got the Bucs on the board with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second. After Carlos Matamoros was hit by a pitch, Julian Abreu belted a double to right center to cut the lead to 5-4. Ryan Baldwin pulled the Bucs even with a solo homer in the third.
Barry took the lead in the fifth. DeGoti tripled and scored on a ground out by Ramon Valdez.
They added a pair of runs in the eighth on a double by Quintana, but in the top of the ninth, the Griffins scored four runs on two hits and two errors to take a 9-8 lead. After loading the bases, the first runs came in as Alec Craig was hit by a pitch. With the bases still loaded, the Bucs got Jon Baturgil to hit a ground ball to shortstop, but were unable to complete the double play, and when the throw got away at first, the tying run scored from second. Baturgil scored the go-ahead run on a single by Joe Monaghan.
Trailing 9-8, the Bucs gave up two outs on hard-hit balls to the outfield before Abreu had his second doubles. Degoti followed with a walk and Valdez tied the game with a single to right, setting up Quintana for the game-winner.
Luis Deville (3-0) got the final out of the top of the ninth to pick up the win. He faced five batters, recorded one out, gave up an unearned run on one hit. Matthew Kress (0-1) who started the ninth for the Griffins, took the loss. He gave up two runs on three hits and a walk.
Degoti went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Ramos drove in three with his homer, as did Quintana. Abreu, Valdez, Quintana and Baldwin also all had two hits.
The Bucs face the Yellowjackets of American International in a three-game set this weekend at Feinbloom Field.
