MIAMI SHORES, Fla.-- Barry baseball fell in a close game to Saint Thomas Aquinas, 10-8.
The Buccaneers trailed three separate times in the game, answering twice, but were unable to muster a third comeback as they lost Monday night.
The Bucs put themselves in an early hole, allowing three runs in the second off a home run, an RBI single and an RBI sac fly. In the bottom of the inning however, they tied it up thanks to an
Alffredi Ramos two-RBI double to left center and a
Khalil Denson RBI single.
The Spartans regained the lead in the fourth on a three-run double to right field and an RBI sac fly. In the bottom half of the inning, Barry's
Frank Gonzalez flew out to right field, bringing in
Kyle Pangallo. The Bucs scored again in the seventh on an
Alexander DeGoti RBI groundout that brought in Pangallo and on a walk by
Ramon Valdez that brought home
Mike Diaz to tie the game up at 6-6.
The Spartans broke the tie in the eighth on a fielder's choice and an RBI ground out. Barry came back again though when Denson hit his second homer of the year to right field. However, in the ninth, STA homered and score once more on a wild pitch to make it 10-8 -- a lead the Bucs could not answer.
