MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry baseball won its series against Embry-Riddle as it split the doubleheader with the Eagles on Saturday, 9-7, 4-8.
The first game was a win for the Buccaneers that was a result of a huge comeback in the 8
th inning.
Embry-Riddle scored the first five runs of the game before Barry answered back. In the 4
th inning,
Jonathan Quintana tripled to centerfield, bringing in
Ramon Valdez to make it a 5-1 game.
ERAU would add two more runs and the Bucs would be down 7-1 coming into the 8
th.
In the 8
th, Barry would mount an epic comeback with Valdez earning a RBI after being walked, Quintana adding another RBI with a single and
Ryan Baldwin bringing in two runs with a single through the right side to cut the ERAU lead to two.
The Bucs would reclaim the lead for good when
Alffredi Ramos hit a grand slam homer to centerfield which make it a 9-7 ballgame for Barry.
The Bucs would hold on in the 9
th and earn their sixth win in-a-row.
Bucs reliever
Adrian Benitez earned his first win of the year with a one strikeout, 3.0 IP effort and closer
Lance Elder earned his second save of the year with a two strikeout performance in the 9
th.
ERAU starter Dominic Jeancola went to 0-1 on the year with the loss in a 1.0 IP effort.
In the second game, the Bucs would get out to an early lead with a Valdez RBI groundout that brought in
Alexander DeGoti to make it a 1-0 game.
However, in the 2nd and 3
rd, Embry-Riddle would score six runs to take the lead for good as the Bucs could not bringing runners home, only being about bring in three more runs.
ERAU would add two more runs in the 7
th to secure the win.
Bucs starter
Daniel Broeseker got the loss in a 1.1 IP, one strikeout effort while ERAU reliever Dylan Demarest went to 2-0 on the year in a 7.2 IP, five strikeout performance.
The Bucs improve to 16-7 with the series win while Embry-Riddle stands at 15-7.
Up next for the Bucs is a Monday night clash against Saint Thomas Aquinas with the first pitch slated to be at 6 PM.
