MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--As the 2015-16 women's basketball season winds to a close, the Buccaneers host the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday in the regular season finale at 2:00 pm in the Health & Sports Center. The Bucs will honor the nine-member senior class prior to the game.
Jackie Perez, Ines Kerin, Ivana Vuletic, Kim Flournoy, Kaila Britten, Irene Sanchez, Amra Elezovic, Emily Schahczinski and Taylor Obersteadt will be playing in their final regular season game in the HSC.
Perez has been a key member of the team for five years, playing in 109 games. She has started every game for the team since her sophomore season, despite missing 2013-14 to injury. One of the most prolific three-point shooters in program history, she currently holds the school records for made three-pointers in a season, in a career and is tied for second in a game. She is 7th in scoring, assists and games played and 9th in steals. A fixture on the President's List during her undergraduate career, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student as well. She was named to the Academic All-Region team this season.
Kerin's career has taken a circuitous path, but in her two seasons on the court, she has been one of the top guards in the conference with an assist-turnover rate of almost 2-to-1 and a three-point field goal percentage of over 40 percent. Starting every game this season, she is second on the team in scoring and third in assists and steals. On the cusp of setting the school record for three-point shooting, she was named SSC Player of the Week on Jan. 4. A member of the President's and Dean's Lists throughout her career, she was named to the Academic All-Region team this season.
Vuletic, one-year graduate transfer, comes from the University of South Florida. She has provided a solid post presence off the bench in her one season, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her graduate program of organizational learning and leadership.
Flournoy is a staunch defender who transferred from Seattle University. After missing most of last season, she has returned this year to play in every game, earning Sunshine State Conference defensive player of the week twice. She leads the team in rebounding and steals, despite starting only six games. The President of the Bucs' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor List throughout her career.
Britten has played in all but one game, making 36 starts, in her two years with the Bucs after transferring from Grossmont Community College. She has been an effective defensive presence in the post, earning Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week once this season. A management major, she's been a member of the Dean's, Athletic Director's and Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
Sanchez has been a Jill of all trades for the Bucs this year after missing most of last season. She is fourth in scoring and steals, third in rebounding, second in assists and leads the team in blocked shots. She has led the team in at least one of those categories in 21 of the Bucs' 26 games and was named SSC Player of the Week on Feb. 1. A broadcasting and emerging media major, she has been member of the Dean's and Athletic Director's Honors Lists.
Elezovic has blossomed into a legitimate star for the Bucs during her career. She enters her final regular season game, seventh in school history in scoring average, first in free throw percentage and fourth in three-point field goal percentage. She's been named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week twice this season. This season, she is on pace to set the free throw percentage record, entering today's game at 89.5 percent from the line.
Schahczinski is one of just two four-year letterwinners in this class, having appeared in 78 games. She has led the Bucs to a 46-30 mark over her career. She had a career-game last season as the Bucs beat Saint Leo at home, scoring 16 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists, all career highs. Named to the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor List throughout her career, she has also been on the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times.
A one-year graduate transfer from Kansas State, Obersteadt has been a mature and steadying influence on the team this season. A graduate student in the sports psychology program, she has helped the team reach the next level this season.
