MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball made a statement Friday night as it won its first Sunshine State Conference game with dominant pitching and decisive hits in a 5-1 win over Eckerd.
In the low-scoring affair, the Buccaneers got out to an early lead in the 2
nd when
Alffredi Ramos reached home due to a fielding error to make 1-0.
Eckerd would get one back in the 5
th with an RBI double by Tom Buonopane.
A sacrifice fly by
Jonathan Quintana brought home
Alexander DeGoti in the 6
th and the Bucs would finish off the Tritons in the 8
th with RBI by
Ryan Baldwin,
Ramon Valdez and
Mike Diaz.

Alex Lavandero had a huge night with eight strikeouts in 8.0 IP, earning his first win at Barry. Eckerd starter Jack Silberman got the loss in 6.2 IP.
Barry improves to 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in the SSC, Eckerd is now 3-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
The series continues tomorrow as the two teams play in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM.Â
