Women's Basketball Sweeps Tars With Road Win

Bucs get a 78-75 win in Winter Park, thanks to 20 4th quarter points from Elezovic

WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneer completed the season sweep of the Rollins Tars with a 78-75 win in Warden Arena on Wednesday night.

It's the first time the Bucs (17-7, 9-5 SSC) have swept the Tars (10-13, 5-9 SSC) since 1997 and only the third time in the history of the series (1991).

It was not easy, however, as Barry led for less than three minutes total in the game. The Bucs trailed by 11 at the half, 36-25, as they shot just 34.4 percent from the field. Irene Sanchez and Ines Kerin each had six points in the half to lead the Bucs.

The Bucs came out of the intermission on fire, hitting 53.0 percent from the floor and nearly matching the output of the first half with 24 third-quarter points.

The Bucs turned it up even more in the fourth quarter, hitting an outstanding 10-for-14 (71.0 percent) and scoring 29 points, 20 by Amra Elezovic.

Still the Bucs trailed 75-74 with 0:31 seconds to play after Marie Gilbert sunk a pair of free throws. Elezovic came down and hit a runner in the lane to give the Bucs the lead back at 76-75 with just under 0:15 seconds. The Tars used a timeout to move the ball up the court, but Julia Ingler dribbled it off her foot on the baseline and the Bucs found Elezovic on the inbound play. She was fouled with 0:02.2 second left and calmly drained both free throws.

Elezovic finished with a game-high 24 points. Jackie Perez added 15 points and Sanchez had 12. Gilbert led four Tars in double figures with 15 points. Ingler and Jasmine Stone added 13 each and Tianna Rosser chipped in 12.

Barry hit 10-of 21, 47.6 percent from three-point range. The out-scored the Tars 23-12 off turnovers and 34-26 in the paint.

The Bucs host the Tampa Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 pm in the Health & Sports Center.
