MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers were swept 9-3 and 6-3 by the Flagler Saints on Sunday at Buccaneer Field in softball action.
Flagler (7-8) got a pair of two-run homers, from Whitney Woodard in the second inning and Malloree Escue in the sixth, to cruise to a 9-3 win in game one.
Tinsley Smith (1-0) worked 4.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Callie Reed to earn the win. She walked one and struck out one, giving up four hits. Anieliese Palmeiro (1-2) took the loss for the Bucs (3-5). She gave up eight runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks.
In the second game, the Saints scored three runs in the second inning to break open a 1-1 game. Escue and Maddy Murphy had RBI singles.
Haliegh Corbally (2-4) got the win for the Saints. She gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk in five innings and struck out three. Smith tossed the final two innings to earn her third save. Kristine Pazienza (0-1) went the distance for the Bucs, allowing six runs (three earned) on 12 hits and two walks with one strikeout.
The Bucs open Sunshine State Conference play on Friday, Feb. 19 at Nova Southeastern.
