Amra Elezovic hit a layup with two seconds left, and
Kim Flournoy came up with a steal on Nova Southeastern's last possession as Barry University beat the No. 13-ranked Sharks, 67-65, on the road Saturday.
It was Barry's second win over a Top-25 ranked opponent this season. The Buccaneers improved to 16-7 overall, 8-5 in the Sunshine State Conference. NSU fell to 20-4, 12-2. Barry maintained a two-game lead over Tampa for fourth place in the league, and are a game behind third place Florida Southern, whom the Bucs split with this season. The top four teams in the league host a first round SSC Tournament game the first week of March.
Elezovic finished with 23 points and five steals. She was 10 of 17 from the field.
Ines Kerin scored 18 points and had six assists as the Buccaneers outscored the Sharks 36-29 in the second half.Â
Barry trailed 59-58 with 3:44 to go after Molly Blomer hit a 3 for Nova. Elezovic answered with a three of her own before Taylor Buie countered with another for the Sharks. Barry's
Irene Sanchez scored in the paint with 1:48 on the clock to put the Bucs back up by one. Monaye Merritt answered 15 seconds later to put the Sharks back in front.Â
Ivana Vuletic scored at the 1:13 mark to give the Buccaneers a 65-64 lead. Merritt was fouled with five seconds left, and split the pair at the free throw line to tie the game. After a Bucs timeout, Elezovic hit the gamewinner.
It was a game that featured nine ties and nine lead changes. Barry led by as many as five late in the first half, and overcame a 10-point deficit in the third quarter.Â
Sanchez finished with nine points and six boards. Flournoy had seven rebounds, five points and three steals.
The Bucs will play at Rollins 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
