WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes blew an ill wind at the Barry Buccaneers on Saturday in the Sailfish Showdown, winning 6-5.
The Hurricanes (6-4) scored five unearned runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Mikela Barlow had a two-run double to give the Hurricanes the lead.
The Bucs (3-3) carved out a 4-0 lead after the top of the third inning. Dee Espinosa drove in Kayla Ogle and Megan Copeland in the first inning. In the third inning, Lynsey Duncan delivered a bases-load single to plate Alayna Gallagher and Copeland.
Ashley Fernandez had an RBI single in the seventh, scoring Gallagher, but Hurricane pitcher Sabrina Carlisle (2-0) got Duncan to ground out to first to end the game.
Carlisle tossed a complete game, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks and struck out two. Duncan (0-1) took the loss, giving up all six runs (one earned) on six hits and six walks while recording one strikeout.
The Bucs host the Flagler College Saints on Sunday, Feb. 14 in the home opener at Buccaneer Field at noon.
