Women's Basketball Travels Across Town To Face The Sharks

Bucs play fifth game this season at the Sharks' home

DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers make their shortest conference trip of the year this weekend as they travel across town to face the 13th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action from the University Center.

It will be the Bucs' fifth game in the University Center, as they also played in a pair of tournaments hosted by the Sharks. The Bucs are 3-1 at the University Center this year and 8-6 over the last three seasons.

The Bucs (15-7, 7-5 SSC) have a host of seniors, nine in all, leading the team this season. The trio of Amra Elezovic, Jackie Perez and Ines Kerin, have been in the forefront. Elezovic is tops on the squad with 16.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and shoots 91.3 percent from the line. She is second in the league in scoring, eighth in rebounding and leads the league in free throw percentage. Elezovic is sixth nationally in free throw shooting.

Guards Kerin and Perez chip in 12.4 and 10.9 points per game respectively. They rank first and second in three-point percentage at 47.1 and 43.1 percent. Perez leads the conference in made three-pointers (2.7) and is climbing up the all-time conference career list, currently sitting in seventh place. Kerin is third in made threes (2.5). Perez is second on the team with 3.3 assists per game, while Kerin adds 2.9.

Fellow senior Irene Sanchez is third on the team in rebounding (5.4) and leads in assists (3.5) while averaging 9.5 points per game. Kim Flournoy, another senior, chips in 4.4 points and 5.7 rebounds to go along with 1.8 steals per game. Flournoy, who earned her second SSC Defensive Player of the Week award this week, is fourth in the SSC in steals, just one steal ahead of Kerin.

Kayla Wright leads the Sharks (20-3, 12-1 SSC) with 16.0 points per game and is second in rebounding at 5.3. Taylor Buie chips in 13.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She is second in the league in made three-pointers at 2.6. Monaye Merritt leads the team with 6.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists while scoring 10.0 points per game.

After winning the last seven straight, the Sharks hold a 22-16 edge in the overall series.
