WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers were sunk 3-1 by the Armstrong State Pirates at the Sailfish Showdown on Friday at Tropicana Field on the Rinker Athletic Campus.
The Pirates (5-3) scored one in the first and two more in the third. Logan Harrell knocked in Peyton Roth, who had walked, with a single down the left field line in the first. Harrell delivered the base hit in the third, driving in pinch runner Emily Swafford, in the third. Michelle Breen had a sacrifice fly to drive in the final run. All three Pirate runs reached on walks.
The Bucs (3-2) finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Sam Busekrus, Hunter Mars and Kayla Ogle singled with one out and Alayna Gallagher drove in Busekrus with a fly ball.
Busekrus, Mars and Ogle all had two hits for the Bucs. Harrell had two hits for the Pirates.
Tori Bates (2-2) scattered seven hits to earn the win for the Pirates. She gave up one run, had one walk and one strikeout. Geneva Santos (2-1) took the loss for the Bucs. In the six-inning complete game, she allowed three runs on six hits and six walks and struck out three.
The Bucs face Georgia Southwestern at 1:00 pm on Saturday in their final game in the tournament.
