Volleyball Falls at Saint Leo

Bucs finish season Friday, Saturday on road

SAINT LEO, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team lost at Saint Leo Wednesday night, 25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17.

The Buccaneers (15-13, 7-8 Sunshine State Conference) will finish the season on the road Friday at Embry-Riddle and Saturday at Rollins.

Jaeda Allen had 17 kills and nine digs, Ivana Didanovic had 11 kills and four blocks and Ariel Mangum had 16 digs and an ace for the Bucs, who hit .259. 

The Bucs matched the Lions (19-10, 11-4) with seven blocks. But Saint Leo had six aces to Barry's two.

Barry hit an impressive .333 in the third set, pounding 14 kills with only two errors. Saint Leo hit .159 with 15 kills and eight errors. The Bucs took a 16-14 lead on Kaitlin Drake's serve. The Lions tied it at 17-17, but a kill by Allen and attack error by Saint Leo pushed Barry back ahead, 19-17. Saint Leo tied it again, winning the next two points before a Lions service error and an ace by Allen moved the Bucs on top, 21-19. Drake pounded a kill and a Lions setting error gave the Bucs a four-point lead. Drake put away another ball, and Didanovic finished off the set with a kill to pull Barry within 2-1 in the match.

But despite hitting .242 with 12 kills and four errors in the fourth set, the Bucs fell victim to a torrid Lions attack. Saint Leo hit .458 with 12 kills and one error in the set to wrap up the match.

Jenny Trinidad had 22 assists and eight digs. Juliana Tirabassi had 19 assists and seven digs. Kristina Filimonova hit .421 with nine kills and three blocks. Drake finished with seven kills and eight digs, while hitting .300.

The Bucs play at Embry-Riddle 7 p.m. Friday and at Rollins 4 p.m. Saturday to finish the season.
