Buccaneers finish 10-3 at home this season

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- For the fourth straight match, Barry's volleyball team went five sets. This time, the Buccaneers got one.

Barry beat Sunshine State Conference leader Saint Leo, 24-26,22-25,25-22,25-21,15-13, in the final home match this season. The Bucs (15-10, 7-7) will see the same team Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the road.

The Lions got out to a two-set lead, but the Bucs overcame the adversity by responding in the third set. Barry opened a 20-17 lead on the second of two straight kills by Brittany Reynolds, who finished with 11 in the match. A putaway by Kat Espinosa made it 24-20 before the Lions stayed alive by winning the next two points. But a Saint Leo attack error handed the Bucs the set.

Barry, who battled point for point with Saint Leo in the fourth set, found itself in a 20-20 tie after Hope Lemon's kill for the Lions. But the Bucs used a 4-0 run, touched off on an ace by Reynolds to move within a point of tying the match. After Lemon banged down another kill, Barry's Genesis Castillo finished off the set with a kill.

Castillo had 10 kills and six blocks.

The Bucs opened up a 6-1 lead in the fifth set, but the Lions rallied to cut it to 7-6. A kill by Reynolds gave the Bucs a three-point cushion. Annabella Arcari pulled the Lions within one before Eva Raat pounded a kill and the Lions committed an attack error to put Barry ahead, 11-9. Reynolds put away another ball to extend the Bucs lead back to three, but the Lions responded again, closing the gap to 13-12 on a Buccaneer attack error. Jaeda Allen's kill made it 14-12 before Arcari answered with a kill of her own to cut it to 14-13. Allen finished it off with her 19th kill of the match.

Barry had a season-high 15 blocks, while Saint Leo finished with eight.
