DAVIE, Fla, -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2016-17 season with a 98-64 loss to the Union (Tenn.) Bulldogs at the Nova Southeastern Tip-off Classic on Friday at the NSU Arena.

SUMMARY:
- 1Q - Barry fell behind early as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-6 lead after the first period. The Bucs shot just 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) in the period.
- 2Q - Barry picked it up in the second period, shooting 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) behind Kiara Palmer's eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. But the Bucs trailed at the half 54-29.
- 3Q - The Bucs ran cold again in the third quarter, as five points from Elin Ekdahl and four from Palmer were all they managed. Union's Jada Smith had 13 points in the period on her own.
- 4Q - Barry finally got rolling in the fourth, out-scoring the Bulldogs 26-15. Lauren Seyranian had nine points, while Ekdahl and Palmer each chipped in six.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Both games against Union have opened the season for the Bucs.
- Union, who hosted the South Region Tournament last year, entered the season ranked 19th in Division II.
- Palmer led the Bucs for the game with 22 points and nine rebounds. Ekdahl chipped in 16 points and hit 4-of-4 from three-point range.Seyranian finished with 13 points off the bench.
- Jada Smith led Union with 23 points as five players scored in double figures.
