ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Barry's women's soccer team wrapped up their final road game of the 2016 regular season Wednesday night at Johnson Field, with a 2-0 victory over Eckerd.
Barry (8-2-2, 5-2-1 SSC) got off to a quick start as Sarah Wignall found the back of the net in the 7th minute. Wignall was found unmarked in the middle of the 18 yard box from teammate, Amanda Traynor. Wignall turned with the ball and finished low left corner past Triton keeper, Casey Winn, to take the one-goal lead. Wignall's goal prevented Winn from tying Eckerd's all-time clean sheet record for the regular season.
Both teams prevented each other from scoring the remainder of the first half, but the Bucs went into halftime having outshot Eckerd 8-4.
Molly Sharpe tallied her fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute to sink the host Tritons. Sharpe, unassisted, finessed her way through the back line and placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, to increase the lead to two goals.
Eckerd (7-9-2, 2-5-2 SSC) struggled on offense as they were unable to get a single shot off in the second half.
The Bucs outshot the Tritons 20-4. Barry keeper, Paula Forero, only had to make one save to collect her eighth win of the season. Winn made four saves to take the last loss of the season for the Tritons, as they have fallen short of having a spot in the SSC Tournament.
The Bucs have already clinched a spot in the SSC Tournament, and now go into their final season game having not lost a match in their last six contests. They wrap up their 2016 regular season Saturday Oct. 29 at 6 pm, as they host Rollins on Buccaneer Field.
