MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University Buccaneers swamped the Rollins Tars 4-0 in the regular season finale for both teams in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field.
The Bucs (9-2-2, 6-2-1 SSC) rode a hat trick by junior Amanda Traynor to their biggest win over the Tars (9-2-3, 5-1-3 SSC) since an 8-0 win in 2002.
Hurricane Matthew postponed the game on Oct. 8 and heavy rains made the makeup a swampy mess as they fell throughout the match.
But the Bucs seemed to navigate the wet conditions much better than the Tars. Traynor put the Bucs on the board in fourth minute. Breia Pierce took a throw in from the right side and found Traynor open near the top of the six-yard box and she easily beat keeper Kelly Rowswell to the far post.
In the 22nd minute, Traynor struck again, working a give-and-go with Carissa Sanchez before beating Rowswell again.
The Tars changed keepers at the half, but to no avail as Barry score twice more in the second. Just after halftime, Sanchez got on the board with an assist from Sarah Wignall, making it 3-0 in the 49th minute.
Traynor completed the hat-trick in the 72nd minute. Sandy Benito took a shot that keeper Carly Stevens barely deflected, but it landed right at Traynor's feet and she slotted home the final goal.
Paula Forero had six saves to run her scoreless streak to 249 minutes as she posted her fourth straight clean sheet and seventh of the season in just 13 games. Rowswell took the loss for the Tars, making three saves, while Stevens had six saves.
The Bucs clinched the third seed in the SSC Tournament and will host the Florida Tech Panthers on Tuesday night at Buccaneer Field.
