Men's Soccer Hosts Sailfish For Senior Night

7 athletes recognized as they play in their final games as a Buccaneer

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University men's soccer team are hosting the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 pm. This game will also be senior night for the lads, as we recognize the seven members of the 2016 graduating class of the Barry men's soccer team.

Patrick Borchert is a two-year letterman who transferred from the University of the District of Columbia. He has been a pivotal component of the Buccaneer defense the last two seasons having played in 25 matches, while starting in 21. He has also recorded 2 goals and 6 assists while playing for Barry. Borchert has been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll last fall, and also named to the Dean's List in the spring, and will be graduating with a degree in management.

Nyle Patel is a two-year letterman after transferring from St. Francis College. Patel is a true playmaker on the field, who has 3 goals and 9 assists in his time at Barry. He has played in 26 matches for the Bucs, having starting in 21. He has also been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and Dean's List last fall, as well as named to Athletic Director's List in the spring, and will be graduating with a degree in accounting.

Mitchell Smith is a two-year letterman after transferring from Drake University. The senior captain uses a lead by example approach while he serves as an integral part of the Barry defense. He has 22 appearances while at Barry, started in 18, and he even netted his first goal of his Bucs career this season. He has also been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, as well as to the Dean's List last fall, and will be graduating with a degree in finance.

Bo Haug is a two-year letterman coming from Anderson University. His overall record in goal at Barry is 8-4-3, having made 55 saves and posting 4 shutouts. Despite his injury keeping him off the field almost the entire 2016 season, he uses his experience and knowledge of the game to mentor others, and serve as a positive presence for his teammates. He was also named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll last fall, and also named to the Dean's List last fall and in the spring, and will be graduating with a degree in international business.

Maurice Padula is a three-year letterman who joined the squad in 2014 from Nova. He now has 29 match appearances, while he started in 5. This athlete had just notched his first collegiate goal last Sunday, as well as assisting one of the seven goals scored that day. He will be graduating with a degree in criminology.

Pablo Georgakopoulos is a four-year letterman who came to Barry in 2013 from Doral. Georgakopoulos has played in 60 games for the Bucs, and started in 54. His composed nature of play has set up 10 assists in his time at Barry. He has also been named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll his sophomore and junior year, as well named to the Athletic Director's List last fall, and will be graduating with a degree in marketing.

Thomas Coombes is a four-year letterman from Newcastle, England. He is currently second in the league for most goals this season, with 11, and he now has a total of 30 career goals which puts him in 7th for most goals in Barry men's soccer history. He is also 7th all-time for game-winning goals with 8, penalty kicks made, with 4, and career points with 75. He will be graduating with a degree in sport management.

The Bucs (7-4-0, 1-4-0 SSC) currently sit in the ninth spot in the league, while the Sailfish (10-2-1, 5-0-1 SSC) are atop the league standings at the number two spot. Lynn is in the first spot with only one loss, which was given to them by Barry. The challenge for Barry will be to try to avoid conceiving as many goals as they can over the remaining games they have, to take off that added pressure on the forwards to keep having to tie or regain the lead for the team.

The game will be streamed live on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network, and you can keep up with the action following the links below:
