ORLANDO, Fla. -- Barry's volleyball team beat West Alabama, 25-10, 18-25, 25-20, 25-12, in the final match at the South Region Crossover Saturday at Orlando Sports Complex.
The Buccaneers (9-7) hit .256, while the Tigers (12-11) hit .054.
Barry's
Jaeda Allen had 15 kills, nine digs, two aces and two blocks.
Ivana Didanovic had eight kills and four blocks.
Genesis Castillo had seven kills, hit .353 and had five blocks.
Eva Raat and
Brittany Reynolds each had six kills.
Kat Espinosa had 24 digs and three aces.
Juliana Tirabassi had 23 assists and nine digs.
Ariel Mangum had 10 digs.Â
The Bucs hit .450 in the opening set, and were 9 of 11 in sideouts. West Alabama hit -.192 and converted 7 of 23 sideouts. Barry raced out to a 13-4 lead following an ace by Espinosa, two kills by
Kaitlin Drake and a kill by Raat. West Alabama drew within 15-7 on Briana Sandifer's kill, but after three Tigers errors,
Genesis Castillo's kill gave the Bucs a 19-7 lead. The Tigers never recovered.
West Alabama flipped the switch in the second set, hitting .385 to Barry's .139. Allen had six kills for the Bucs in the set, hitting .500, but Barry committed nine attack errors, and were outblocked 4-1.
Filimonova hit .800, banging down four of five balls in the third set, and Allen had five kills. Espinosa had nine digs in the third set, and the Buccaneers hit .286. Tirabassi had eight assists. Filimonova put away a kill to give Barry a 12-8 lead. The Tigers pulled within 12-10 on a Bucs setting error, and then got within one on a Bucs attack error. But Barry ran off the next four points to take an 18-13 lead on a kill by Raat. Reynolds put away a setup from Tirabassi to extend the Bucs lead to 20-14. Sandifer's kill pulled the Tigers within four, but Reynolds banged down one of
Jenny Trinidad's 14 assists, and Allen blasted down two of the last three points.
Barry held West Alabama to -.152 in the fourth set, while putting away 12 balls against five errors. The Bucs converted 8 of 12 sideouts, and the Tigers were 8 of 25. Didanovic had two straight kills to give the Bucs a 12-5 lead. Didanovic and Raat each had a kill, and Espinosa ripped off an ace to push the lead to 18-6. Castillo's kill made it 20-9.

Maegan Cuesta,
Amanda Brill came on for a service point, and Didanovic had a solo block to seal the deal.
The Bucs outblocked the Tigers, 10-5. Barry had 60 digs to West Alabama's 49. Barry had eight aces, while West Alabama had two.
The Bucs improved to 10-8 all time at the Crossover.Â
Barry will play at Nova Southeastern 7 p.m. Tueday.
