#8 Men’s Soccer Falls To #23 Tampa

Bucs suffer third straight loss

TAMPA, Fla. – Buccaneer's men's soccer team got speared by the Spartans Friday night 4-1, dropping their third-straight match.

Tampa (7-2-2, 3-2-1 SSC) struck first in the 15th minute when Troy Tucker found Lewis Sugden with a pass at the top of the box, who ripped the ball into the back of the net, to take the 1-0 lead.

Barry (6-3-0, 1-3-0 SSC) evened the match in the 52nd minute when Manuel Perez scored just outside the six yard box. Perez was assisted by Francisco Aguirre from just inside the 18 yard box.

Fredinho Mompremier took the lead back for the Spartans with the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute. Mompremier was found by Jon Tiggs in the 18 yard box, where he slotted the ball past Barry keeper, Alvaro Magel.

The Spartans scored two more times before the end of the match to make it 4-1. Bay Downing scored in the 85th minute, after he collected a missed shot off the post and buried the ball into the back of the net. Mompremier wrapped up the scoring for the night with a goal in the 90th minute. Chris Dusabe assisted Mompremier on the goal.

Tampa held a 10-9 edge in shots over the Bucs. Magel made three saves as he recorded his first loss for the Bucs. Jake Richards collected the victory for the Spartans, after he made four saves on the night.

The Bucs play again on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pepin Stadium against the Warhawks of Auburn-Montgomery.
