MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball got 2016 off to a great start Tuesday night as it thoroughly defeated Broward College, 7-0.
In a game that was originally scheduled for Jan 15, the Buccaneers had no problem starting the season off right with Barry starting pitcher
Alex Lavandero striking out three batters in the top of the first.
His teammates would give him run support and what would be his first win for the Bucs with two runs in the bottom of the inning off a throwing error which allowed
Carlos Matamoros to come home and an Alffredi Ramos RBI single that brought
Alexander DeGoti to home plate.
The Bucs would add to their lead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. DeGoti had a RBI double that brought
Kyle Pangallo in.
Jonathan Quintana would then earn a RBI walk, bringing in Matamoros to make it 3-0. Ramos would fly out to left field, earning a RBI when DeGoti came home.
Khalil Denson hit a RBI single to culminate a big inning for Barry.
Kyle Pangallo would add to the Barry tally in the sixth, singling down the right field line to make it a 7-0 ballgame, which it would finish.
Lavandero would earn his first win as a Buc, striking out three in two IP. Broward starter Louis Pugliese gets the loss, allowing two earn runs and three hits in one IP.
Buc newcomers

Lance Elder and
Erik Bauer all earned their first strikeouts at Barry on the mound today.
The Bucs improve to 1-0 while Broward College goes to 0-1 in the preseason. Up next for Barry is a Saturday afternoon exhibition against Eastern Florida State College, with first pitch slated for 1 PM.
