Women's Soccer Blanks 12th-Ranked Bears

Grimshaw scores twice

SAVANNAH, Ga.—In the top matchup of opening weekend, the 13th-ranked Barry Buccaneers smashed the 12th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 3-0 at Armstrong Soccer Field on Saturday.

The Bucs (2-0-0) jumped on top early. Amanda Traynor found Christy Grimshaw at the top of the 18-yard box and Grimshaw buried one from straight on against Bears (1-1-0) keeper Andrea Leano in the 10th minute.

Barry held a 1-0 lead at the half, but pumped in a pair of second-half goals. Shanice Robe scored in the 52nd minute, tapping in a rebound from a shot by Lavinia Nkomo.

Grimshaw capped the scoring in the 64th minute as she wrestled the ball away from Leano and scored into the empty net.

Paula Forero picked up the win and her second shutout, making four saves and Katie Turner helped preserve the clean sheet by sweeping the ball off the line in the 72nd minute. Leano took the loss for the Bears, allowing the three goals and making six saves.

The Bucs travel to the Bobcat Shootout in Milledgeville, Ga., to face Armstrong and host Georgia College.
