ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—The 13th-ranked Barry Buccaneers defeated Florida Southern 3-0 at Flagler Field on Thursday.
Amanda Traynor put the Bucs (1-0-0) on top in the fifth minute. She took a cross from Shanice Robe and chipped FSC keeper Helena Nordstrom from just outside the 18-yard box.
The Bucs added a pair of goals in the second half, with both going to Lavinia Nkomo. In the 65th minute, Nkomo connected from Traynor and Christy Grimshaw. Grimshaw sent the ball from the right side all the way to the left and Traynor found Nkomo in the box. Nkomo capped the game in the 89th minute with another assist from Traynor.
Paula Forero posted the shutout, despite not making a save. Nordstrom took the loss for the Mocs (0-1-0), making six saves.
The Bucs take on 12th ranked Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, Sept. 5 in Savannah, Ga.
