Men’s Soccer Takes on National Champion Lynn

Bucs take on rival in SSC showdown

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- A rivalry, the defending national champions, a Sunshine State Conference showdown. That all happens tonight for Barry men's soccer, as it faces the biggest game of the season tonight as the Buccaneers take on Lynn at 7 PM at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs come in riding high, having won their last four games, and scoring 11 goals while allowing only three during the streak.

Tied for the team-lead in goals scored are forwards Thomas Coombes and Patrick Drmola with four each. Coombes also leads the team in assists with three. Also standing out for Barry have been Manuel Perez and Michael Dodds, who have scored two goals each this season.

In the back, the Bucs have posted two shutouts, and have not allowed a goal in the run-of-play the last three games. Junior goalkeeper Bo Haug has 12 saves in 450 minutes played.

For Barry's opponents, the Fighting Knights of Lynn, the 2015 season has taken a bit of a turn recently after starting the season 2-0 and scoring 17 goals as team, the Knights have not won in their last two games.

After allowing a first half lead to slip away as they tied Palm Beach Atlantic 2-2 on Sept 16, things went further against Lynn as they were upset by SSC foe Saint Leo 3-1, on Sept. 19.
Wednesday night, both teams will have something to prove. For Barry, it's to prove that the

Buccaneers can again be mentioned amongst the SSC's best, and for Lynn, to reestablish its standing at the top that it had achieved in 2014.

For the Bucs to defeat their rivals, they'll have to face a very prolific-scoring Knights team.

Most dangerous of all for Lynn is junior forward Chris Hellmann, who has scored a team-leading nine goals and has a team-leading four assists.

Also a threat for the Knights is senior forward Dominik Friedi, who has three goals on the year.

In the net for Lynn will be sophomore Jonny DeMoya, who has two shutouts and nine saves on the year.

A win here for the Bucs could reestablish them in the upper echelon of the SSC, and the fact the game is against a rival won't hurt either.
