MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The 13th-ranked Barry Buccaneers blanked the NAIA third-ranked Keiser Seahawks 3-0 at Buccaneer Field on Monday night in a tune-up as the Bucs look to start their Sunshine State Conference defense.
The Bucs dominated the game, holding a 14-5 edge in shots and 7-1 on goal. Barry also had four corners to none for the Seahawks.
Lavinia Nkomo got the Bucs on the board in the 30th minute. Brittany Larosa pushed the ball up the right wing and crossed it to Amanda Traynor at the top of the six-yard box. Traynor's header slipped off the hands of Seahawk keeper Felicia Sedell and Nkomo was there to pounce on the fumble.
In the 39th minute, Amber Smith pushed a pass up the middle to Shanice Robe who out-raced the KU defense up the middle of the field. One on one with Sedell, she slotted a shot into the far post.
Traynor capped the scoring in the 78th minute. Linnea Kogsta sent another ball up the middle of the field through the entire Seahawk defense and Traynor was able to run on to and chip a shot past Sedell.
Sedell took the loss for the Seahawks, making four saves. Paula Forero earned the win in goal for the Bucs, though without being forced to make a save. Smith stepped in front of the Seahawks' only shot on frame in the 42nd minute from Amanda Bixt.
The Bucs have one more tune-up before opening the season against Florida Southern on Sept. 3 at Flagler Field in St. Augustine.
