MIAMI SHORES, FL—Barry baseball had a night to remember as they dealt with a hour long rain delay, allowed 12 runs, 16 hits (three of them homeruns), and still won.
The Buccaneers won a shootout with their SSC rivals Saint Leo 15-12 off of 17 hits off of eight batters.
Jonathan Quintana,
Kyle Pangallo and
Ramon Valdez all shared the team-lead in hits with three each, respectively.
The Bucs trailed for only the first inning after the Lions went up 1-0 on a Dylan Harris homer.
In the second inning the Bucs would claim a permanent lead with a seven-run haul which included RBI by
Mike Diaz,
JC Cardenas, and
Greg Brodzinski.
Saint Leo responded with five runs combined in the third, fourth and fifth innings off a Nick Perez RBI single into left field, a Taylor Perez home run, a Troy Sieber homer, and a Nick Perez sac fly RBI.
The Bucs continued to add onto their lead in the fifth inning with
Jonathan Quintana scoring on a balk, a
Kyle Pangallo RBI double to center, and a
JC Cardenas RBI single up the middle to make it 10-5.
The two teams would trade blows back and forth for the rest of the game but the Bucs never gave up the lead as they went on to defeat their SSC rivals.
Starting pitcher
Nate Greve got his second straight win to improve to 3-3 on the year while Saint Leo pitcher Liam O'Sullivan loss to put his record at 7-5.
Joeanthony Rivera got his second save of the season.
The Bucs are now 18-22 and 6-10 on the year while the Lions stand at 29-11 and 10-9.
The series continues tomorrow as the teams face off in a doubleheader that begins at 1 pm. Barry baseball will be celebrating its graduating players as the program will be celebrating Senior Day before the first pitch.
