MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The third-ranked Barry Buccaneers dominated the eighth-ranked Saint Leo Lions 6-1 in a key South Region and Sunshine State Conference match at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Bucs (7-0, 1-0 SSC) grabbed a 2-1 lead out of doubles. Renato Lombardi and Kevin Sielmann knocked off Netanel Alcabas and Egor Panyushkin 8-4 at number two, while Dominik Haider and Franco Echenique earned an 8-5 win over Guillaume Vanelven and Fons Verberne at number three.
The Lions (6-2, 2-1 SSC) picked up their only point at number one doubles as Alex Theiler and Bruno Sisti defeated Ahmed Triki and Fabian Groetsch 8-6.
In singles, it was all Buccaneers. Fabian Pronnet made short work of Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio, 6-2, 6-0 at number six and 26th-ranked Nico Dreer defeated Sisti 6-4, 6-1 at number four.
Seilmann clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alcabas at number three and fourth-ranked Triki put the icing on with a 75-64 win over Panyushkin at number two.
The final two matches went undecided due to weather, though the Bucs led in both. Groetsch led Theiler 6-4, 5-3 at number one, while Dominik Haider led 6-1, 4-6, 4-2 over Vanelven at number five.
The Bucs are scheduled to play the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies at 10 am on Sunday, Mar. 8.
