MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Barry baseball went toe-to-toe with the #1 ranked team in the country and got a good result as they split the doubleheader today versus Tampa.
The Bucs upset the Spartans in the first game 5-4 in comeback fashion as they overtook a 3-0 Tampa lead to win the game with a walk-off single by
Mike Diaz.
Diaz led the team with two RBI in the game and was one of three Bucs to have two hits in the contest alongside
JC Cardenas and
Ramon Valdez.
On the mound, reliever
Nate Greve got his first win of the season as he shut out the top-ranked Spartans in the last three innings, and struck out four batters in the process.
The second game started out much like the first, with the Bucs taking a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but nine total runs in the second and third innings sealed it for Tampa as the game was called after five complete due to rain.
With the Bucs now knowing that they can test and best the top team in the nation, the rest of the season looks like a worthy challenge for
Marc Pavao's squad.
Up next is a two-game series with Merrick College with first pitch on March 9
th at 6 pm.
