Buccaneers finish weekend at Florida Tech

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis kept its perfect record in tact, beating host Florida Southern, 9-0, for its second Sunshine State Conference win of the season.

The third-ranked Buccaneers (11-0, 2-0 SSC) will complete the weekend with another league match at No. 44 Florida Tech Sunday in Melbourne, Fla.

Barry's Fabian Pronnet endured the toughest matches of the day in both doubles and singles. But the Bucs newcomer prevailed in both. He and Renato Lombardi defeated Charles Garneau and Brian Slivonik, 9-7, at No. 2 doubles. Pronnet, bumped up to No. 1 singles, rallied to beat Fabian Lundberg, 3-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Barry's Franco Echenique also won a good battle at No. 4 singles, beating Garneau, 6-4, 7-5. He and Dominik Haider breezed to an 8-1 win over Arthur Viallaneix and Derek Bell at No. 3 doubles. Haider beat Laurent Mailloux, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Ahmed Triki, who are ranked No. 3 in the South Region, defeated Lundberg and Mailloux, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.

Lombardi was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Viallaneix at No. 3 singles for his fourth win of the year. Ajdin Tahirovic beat Slivonik, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Austin Cruz defeated Matt Matsuyama, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.
