Buccaneers meet No. 1 West Florida Saturday

Box Score

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Now the stage is set. After Barry University's men's tennis team swept host Valdosta State, 5-0, Friday to pick up its second sweep of the season, the Bucs turned their attention to No. 1 West Florida, whom they'll meet Saturday.

Dominik Haider and Ahmed Triki each secured two points in a match where three of the six singles matches required first-set tiebreakers -- the Buccaneers winning two of them. Haider's 7-6, (7-4), 6-4 win over Ramon Weil at No. 5 singles helped seal the shutout. Triki defeated Niklas Herbring, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 in the only other singles match that was completed.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Triki beat Gereon Heitmann and Ramon Weil, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. But the most impressive pairs win was Kevin Sielmann and Renato Lombardi's 8-1 victory over 19th regionally-ranked Francisco Yim Kim and Niklas Herbring at the No. 2 spot. Haider and Franco Echenique picked up an 8-4 win over Edward Nguyen and Leo Blay at the third doubles spot.

Nico Dreer was trailing in his match after dropping the first set to 19th-ranked Yim Kim, 7-6 (9-7) and hinging on a 5-3 deficit in the second when the final match decided the team result.

Groetsch was a game away from closing out Blay at No. 1 when the final team point was secured, and Fabian Pronnet spilt sets with Nguyen at No. 6.
