MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The women's basketball team closes the home schedule with their annual Senior Night as the Bucs host the Lynn Fighting Knights in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the Health & Sports Center.
The game pits the Bucs against their arch-rival as they look to split the season series. The Knights (7-16, 1-13 SSC) picked up their only conference win 66-45 against the Bucs on Jan. 21 in the deHoernle Center. Kaylia Richardson led all scorers for the Bucs with 16 points, but she couldn't overcome the trio of Sharneka McCatty, Shay Harris, and Tylar Tracy who scored 13, 12 and 12 points respectively to pace the Knights.
Kaylia Richardson leads the Bucs with 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field. Jackie Perez chips in 10.6 points per game and a team-best 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals. Amra Elezovic averages 9.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
McCatty leads the Knights with 12.3 points per game, while Carla Nelson-James give them a solid post presence with 10.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
The Bucs will pause to take the opportunity to recognize the quartet of senior transfers playing their final regular season game in the Health & Sports Center.
Ashley Lutz, Nyjah Porcher, Lynae Richardson and Kaylia Richardson comprise the 2015 senior class for the Bucs.
Lutz, from Labette CC in Kansas, is an outstanding athlete. She has been one of the top defenders in the SSC with 41 steals on the season. Known for her shooting, she currently ranks first in Barry history with a perfect 17-of-17 from the line as the most makes without a miss this season.
Porcher, from Community College of Rhode Island, ranking among the team leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals during her career. She has played everywhere from point guard to power forward as she has started 23 of 26 games this season.
Kaylia Richardson, from Ancilla CC where she led the nation in scoring as a sophomore, was a member of the SSC All-Newcomer Team last season. She ranks in the top-10 in both field goal percentage and offensive rebounding on the Barry career list and 12th in scoring average. This season, she leads the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, despite missing the first seven games.
Lynae Richardson (no relation), from St. Petersburg College, has connected on over 30 percent of her three-point attempts and 80 percent of her free throws. Outstanding as well in the classroom, she earned Dean's List honors all three semesters with the Bucs.
