Bucs drop pair to Georgia College

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a softball doubleheader to the Georgia College Bobcats 9-1 in five innings and 2-1 at Buccaneer Field on Friday night.

In the first game, Julie Brito put the Bucs (10-5) up 1-0 in the second inning with her second homer of the season, but that was all the offense they would manage against Bobcat starter Marisa Boyette (8-0).

Boyette gave up just four hits and two walks with the only run coming on Brito's blast. Haley Wiseman (6-2) got knocked around to take the loss. The freshman gave up six runs on five hits, four of them doubles, and five walks in four innings.

Abi Leroy had a sacrifice fly and a three-run double to drive in four for the Bobcats (13-2). Kristen Brooks have a pair of doubles and scored twice as did Danielle Bernstein.

In the second game, Barry's Taylor Sabol and GC's Carly Lewis locked up in a pitching duel. Lacy Najafi ripped a two-run homer in the fourth for the Bobcats' only offense off Sabol (2-3). Brito and Cheyanne Head combined for the Bucs' run in the seventh. Brito doubled to lead off the inning and Head drove her in with a base hit to right.

Sabol held the Bobcats to two runs on three hits and two walks, while Lewis (5-3) allowed five hits and a walk.

The Bucs host another set of Bobcats from crosstown rival St. Thomas University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
