Softball Blanks Bobcats For Homecoming

Dee Espinosa led a potent Buccaner attack

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers bounced back from Friday night's twinbill loss to Georgia College with a pair of 8-0 walk-off, run-rule wins over the St. Thomas Bobcats at Buccaneer Field on Saturday.

The Bucs (12-5) won both games by run-rule in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor Sabol (3-3) and Kristina Pazienza (3-0) tossed complete-game shutouts to earn the wins, while Dee Espinosa in game one and Ashley Fernandez in game two had homers.

In the first game, Epsinosa tied a Barry record with two homers. She hit a two-run shot in the third to right center and a solo shot down the left field line in the fifth. Alayna Gallagher scored the final run in the sixth inning when she scored on an error by St. Thomas' Jessica Gonzalez.

Sabol scattered four hits and a walk and struck out one to toss her first shutout of the season. Cristina Sacaramento (0-2), who took the loss in both games, allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.

In game two, Pazienza allowed six hits, but no walks, and struck out two, to record her second straight shutout. Sacramento went four innings, allowing five unearned runs on five hits.

Espinosa continued her hot hitting, going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Fernandez capped a five-run fourth inning with her first homer of the year and scored the final run in the sixth on a ground out by Gallagher.

The Bucs are off until Saturday, Feb. 28 when they open Sunshine State Conference play at Saint Leo.
