MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers ran their win streak to six game with a doubleheader sweep of the Kentucky State Thorobrettes 2-0, and 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday at Buccaneer Field.
In the first game, Kristina Pazienza (2-0) tossed a three-hit shutout and Julie Brito belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lift Barry over KSU.
Pazienza gave up three hits and three walks and struck out six in her first career start. Cheyanne Carpenter (0-3) went six innings, allowing seven hits and a walk. She held Barry scoreless until Brito's blast in the sixth.
Brito, who also added a double, and Cheyanne Head both had two hits for the Bucs.
In the second game, the Bucs got started in the third inning against KSU's Brittney Gately (0-3). Hunter Mars walked and Megan Copeland had a bunt single. After a sacrifice by Alayna Gallagher, Kelly Martinez ripped a single to left-center to score both runs and went to second on the throw. Dee Espinosa and Brito followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Lexi Corrente singled up the middle to score Brito. Corrente scored on a fielding error by KSU's Jac Paysinger in right after a single by Head.
In the fourth, Gallagher and Martinez singled with one out. Esipnosa doubled to right to score Gallagher, and Brito doubled to knock in two more and went to third on an error by left fielder Jaida Young. She scored on a ground out.
Haley Wiseman (6-1) notched her first career shutout, striking out 10 in five innings and allowing just a hit and a walk. Gately gave up 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and a walk.
Brito, Espinosa, Martinez and Corrente all had a pair of hits for the Bucs.
The Bucs will host the Georgia College Bobcats on Friday in a twinbill starting at 4:00 pm.
