MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers and Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish split a softball doubleheader on Wednesday night at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs took game one 4-3, while the Sailfish captured the nightcap 5-1.

In the first game, after the Sailfish (5-2) struck first in the top of opening inning, the Bucs (4-3) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom. Megan Copeland beat out an infield single to start the game and later scored on a wild pitch by PBA starter Corrie Boggess (1-2). Dee Espinosa, who walked, came home on a bases-loaded walk to Ashley Fernandez.

The Bucs added another pair in the second inning. After a Hunter Mars single, Copeland reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Alayna Gallagher walked and both she and Copeland scored on a double by Espinosa.

Up 4-1, the Bucs withstood a two-run homer by PBA's Victoria Gonzalez, her fifth of the season, in the sixth inning.

Boggess took the loss for PBA, allowing two runs on a hit and two walks in a third of an inning. Haley Wiseman (3-1) went the distance for the third time in four starts. She allowed three runs on three hits and three walks and struck out six.

In the second game, PBA broke open a scoreless pitcher's duel between Barry's Taylor Sabol (1-2) and Jana Wagner (2-0) with five runs in the sixth inning. Gonzalez again had the big blow, a bases-clearing three-run double.

Gallagher got the Bucs on the board in the bottom of the frame with a one-out triple. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Martinez.

Sabol took the loss for Barry, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk. She struck out seven. Wagner didn't record a strikeout, but held the Bucs to a single run on three hits and a walk.

The Bucs take to the road again this weekend, playing in the South/Southeast Crossover Tournament in St. Augustine, Fla. The field is hosted at Flagler College.
