MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women's basketball team closes out the fall semester at the Nova Southeastern Holiday Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19-20. The Bucs (6-3) face off against Albany State (2-5) on Saturday and Miles (7-2) on Sunday.
Barry has won five of its last six games, including a 64-49 road win at Saint Leo on Saturday.
The senior-laden Buccaneers are led by the trio of Amra Elezovic, Jackie Perez and Ines Kerin.
Elezovic is tops on the squad with 14.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game and shoots 88.6 percent from the line. She is fourth in scoring, sixth in rebounding and second in free throw percentage in the league.
Guards Jackie Perez and Ines Kerin chip in 10.8 and 10.4 points per game respectively. They rank second and first in three-point shooting at 44.7 and 44.1 percent respectively. Perez is first (2.9) and Kerin is sixth (2.3) in made three pointers.
Irene Sanchez is second on the team in rebounding (5.4) and assists (3.4) while averaging 8.8 points per game. Kim Flournoy, the reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week, had seven steals in the win over Saint Leo. She chips in 4.6 points and 5.1 rebounds to go along with her team-high 2.4 steals per game.
The Rams, who lost their first six games last year, finished the season 19-10 and won nine of the last 10 games. They have their top two players back in guard Keidra Green and forward Artisha Holston. Holston tops the squad with 15.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Green adds 13.0 points and 3.5 rebounds. The Rams won the first meeting between the teams last season at the same classic, 56-51.
Miles went 8-19 last year and lost their leading scorer. It will be the first meeting between the teams. Junior transfer Torborsha Holley leads the balanced Bears' attack with 12.1 points per game, shooting 43.8 percent from three-point range.
After the tournament, the Bucs take 12 days off before coming back on Jan. 2 to host Rollins at 2:00 pm in the Health & Sports Center.
