MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The eighth-ranked Barry Buccaneers posted a 2-0 shutout over the Eckerd Tritons on a soggy night at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer play.
Molly Sharpe scored her first career goal for the game-winner in the sixth minute for the Bucs (8-2-0, 4-1-0 SSC). Amber Smith lofted a free kick into the box and Amanda Traynor touched it deftly to Sharpe's feet for the easy score.
Katie Turner and Shanice Robe displayed their speed in the second half to double up the lead on a counter attack. Turner pushed the ball out of the back and found Robe on the left wing. Robe used her speed to get to the edge against Triton defender Leah Chisolm and came in one-on-one with keeper Angelique Ulmer. Robe's shot sailed over Ulmer's hands for a 2-0 lead in the 69th minute.
Paula Forero had four saves for the Bucs to pick up the win. Ulmer had just one save for the Tritons (3-5-1, 1-4-0 SSC).
The Bucs travel to Winter Park, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 10 for a matchup of the only two ranked teams in the SSC. The Bucs face the 12th ranked Rollins Tars with the teams tied at 4-1-0 atop the SSC standings.
