WINTER PARK, Fla.--The eighth-ranked Barry Buccaneers (9-2-0, 5-1-0 SSC) took a big step in defending their Sunshine State Conference women's soccer title with a 1-0 double overtime win on the road at the 16th-ranked Rollins Tars on Saturday.
Amber Smith connected for the game's lone goal in the 107th minute. Shanice Robe rocketed a shot off a Tars' defender to win a corner kick. Amanda Traynor's service came to Linnea Kogsta, whose header was stopped by Mora Johnson tapped it over to Smith who buried the game-winner.
The Tars (8-3-0, 4-2-0 SSC) had their best chance to score in the 29th minute. Paxton Sickler binged a shot off the cross bar and Johnson got the rebound and fired a shot that was stopped by Smith.
Paula Forero worked her third straight clean sheet for the Bucs, making five saves, while Carly Stevens, who also had five saves, took the loss for the Tars.
The Tars held a 19-18 edge in shots, though both teams had six on goal. Each team had four corners as well.
The Bucs travel to Tampa, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 17 to face the Spartans of the University of Tampa.
