MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- It took 20 shots and 82 minutes, but after many missed chances and frustrating moments, Barry men's soccer was about to win it late and continue its undefeated season with a 2-0 victory over Florida Southern.
The #20-ranked Buccaneers outshot their opponents 22-4 on the night but could not find the back of the net until the 83
rd minute when
Manuel Perez scored on Mocs goalkeeper Cole Clingerman in a 1-vs-1 scenario to put the Bucs' worries to rest. On the assists were
Thomas Coombes and
Esteban Ochoa.
Just three minutes later, the Bucs would put the game away when Coombes would score into the near post from a right cross from
Frank Lustig.
Patrick Drmola also had an assist on the goal.
Both Perez and Coombes scored their fifth goals of the year to be tied for the team-lead in goals scored.
Bucs goalkeeper
Bo Haug earned his third shutout of the year and a save in 90 minutes of work.
The Bucs improve to 5-0-2 on the year and 1-0-1 in the SSC while Florida Southern stands at 2-7 and 1-3 in the conference.
The win puts the Bucs in the thick of the Sunshine State Conference title race and could see them climb in the national polls as well.
