Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell to the Tampa Spartans 61-49 in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday night.
The Buccaneers (10-9, 2-6 SSC), who trailed by 10 points, 9:26 mark of the second half, closed to within two points, 48-46, with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes. But the Spartans (12-6, 5-3 SSC) responded with an 8-0 run of their own over the next three and half minutes and the Bucs never got closer than nine the rest of the way.
The Bucs trailed by just three points at the half. Tampa led 26-20 and had the ball with five seconds left, but turned it over to the Bucs with 0:00.8 seconds left. Nyjah Porcher found Amra Elezovic who drained a shot at the buzzer from 28 feet.
Kaylia Richardson led the Bucs with 13 points, while Elezovic added 12 points and seven boards. Jackie Perez led the Bucs with eight rebounds. Ellen Nurmi led Tampa with a game-high 26 points and five assists. Aisha Rodney added 16 points, while Juliana Cavallero had 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Buccaneers travel to St. Leo, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 31 to face the Saint Leo Lions as the second half of the SSC season gets underway.
