DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers rallied past the much bigger Fayetteville State Lady Broncos 62-56 in the Nova Southeastern Women's Basketball Holiday Classic on Friday.

The Buccaneers (7-2) fell behind early and could not get the offense on track. The Bucs trailed 26-17 at the half.

But in the second half, the Bucs came out firing and shot a blistering 66.7 percent from the field. They opened the period with a 17-7 run, taking their first lead of the game on a Jackie Perez layup with 13:31 remaining. They pushed the lead to eight, 47-39, on a jumper by Nyjah Porcher with 6:53 left.

The Broncos (4-4) stampeded back, grabbing the lead back, 53-52, on an offensive rebound basket by Deja Middleton with 2:49 to play. Shaquanza Manning nailed a three-pointer on the Broncos next possession to give them a two-point lead, 56-54, with 2:06 in the half.

But the Buccaneers clamped down the defense and the Broncos would not score again, allowing Barry to score the last eight points for the six-point win. Ashley Lutz led the charge, hitting a three-pointer and pair of free throws.

Lutz led the Bucs with a career-high 20 points, Perez added 10 points, seven assists and five steals while playing the full 40 minutes. The Broncos had three players in double-figures, led by the 6-4 Middleton with 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Broncos' other post, 6-5 Bria Robinson, added 14 points and seven boards. Manning chipped in 12 points.

The Bucs will face the 0-6 Albany State Lady Rams on Saturday.
