Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers jumped out to a 17-1 lead in the first 4:26 and cruised to a 79-58 win over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in women's basketball action from the Health & Sports Center on Saturday.
The Bucs (3-1) hit six of their first seven shots in building their 16-point lead and the Gallitas (0-4) never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way, despite shooting 54.2 percent from the floor in the second half.
Jackie Perez led a balanced attack for the Bucs, with four players scoring in double figures. Perez had 17, Nyjah Porcher added 15 and Amra Elezovic chipped in 12 points and 13 rebounds. Lynae Richardson came off the bench for 10 points.
Gabriela Maldonado led the Gallitas with 24 points, while Jacqueline Rosario added 12 and Thaliangely Torres had 10 points.
The Bucs play next weekend in the NSU Thanksgiving Classic, facing off against Union University from Jackson, Tenn., on Friday, Nov. 28 and taking on the Stillman Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 29.
