LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team jumped three spots in the second round of the Lady Mocs Golf Classic Monday.
The Buccaneers, which were tied for seventh after the first round, cut seven strokes in shooting a 307 in the second round to move into fourth place. Barry (314-307 - 621) trails leader Seminole State (613) by eight strokes entering Tuesday's final round at The Club at Eaglebrooke.
"These girls are just quality players," Barry coach Gina Umeck said. "They were patient in the first round. As you long as you stay patient on this golf course, the putts are gonna drop. We managed ourselves well. The girls were poised, and they played with a lot of determination."
Barry's Taylor Babcock shot a second round 75 to move into a tie for 11th at 153, Francesca Perini is tied for 14th after shooting 75 to finish the day at 154. Paola Grande shot back-to-back 79s, and sits tied for 28th at 158.
"Francesca and Taylor, those two pulled together some very clutch rounds in the second round," Umeck said. "Francesca putted like a phene. Taylor pulled together a round that was uncomfortable and shaky. Despite a shaky and uncomfortable round ... she put together a very good number. That was the most salient thing of the day."
Babcock had 24 pars over the first two rounds.
Florida Tech's Rachel Polson shot 72-75 -- 147, and has a one-stroke lead over Seminole State's Elia Folch Sola. Florida Southern's Emily Rymer is third at 6-over 150.
Barry's Lizzi Over shot 78-81 -- 159. Daniela Murray shot 81-78 -- 159.
"We're gonna stay in our bubble," Umeck said. "We're gonna maintain our gameplan."
