VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry University women's tennis team stayed perfect on the season with a 6-3 win over West Florida on Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs were perfect in doubles, taking all three points. At number one doubles, the fourth-ranked team of
Barbi Pocza and
Angie Werschel blanked Caitlyn Baines and Taylor Brewster 8-0. At number two doubles,
Laura Boguet and
Alex Gwizdowski defeated Jacqueline March and Luiza Sonnervig 8-2.
Olivia Matuszak and
Julie Stas kept the Bucs perfect in doubles with an 8-3 win over Yana Bokareva and Mariana Sonnervig.
In singles action, #14 Pocza defeated Bokareva 6-1, 6-1. Matuszak beat Baines 6-0, 6-1 at number three, and Stas handed Mariana Sinnervig a 6-1, 6-3 loss at No. 6.
West Florida's three points in singles came at numbers two, three, and five. At No. 2, Brewster beat #23 Werschel 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-5, At number three, #38
Caroline Wendling fell to Luiza Sonnervig 6-4, 4-6, 13-11. March beat Gwizdowski 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-3) at number five.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow against Abraham Baldwin at 10:00 am.
